PLUMP is very happy to be included (again) in the Westheimer Block Party this weekend. This is a must attend event for the Houston Music Scene. 250 bands. We will be at the Main Stage in the Number's Parking lot (located on Westheimer near Taft). PLUMP's set is at 3:20 pm to 3:50 pm. 30 minutes of high-octane PLUMP. People get ready.

This weekend, PLUMP has the fortune of playing at 2 festivals:

We will be playing at the Watermelon Festival at Last Concert Cafe on SAT JUL 25 in HOUSTON, TX. PLUMP is scheduled to play around 8 PM. Other bands include: The Hightailers, Pot Roast, Opie Hendrix, Live Oak Decline, etc. etc. Gonna be a great show!!
PLUMP will also be playing the Houston Press Music Awards showcase on SUN JUL 26. PLUMP will be playing at the Red Cat Jazz Cafe at 9 PM on Sunday night. Wrist bands for the entire festival, which starts at 4 pm and includes 10 music venues and 50 bands, can be purchased through the Houston Press, or at any of the participating music venues. The Houston Press will be announcing on July 2, 2009 the nominees for the 2009 Houston Press Music Awards. After all of your nice and careful voting in the nominations, we have been informed that Jason Jackson has been nominated as "Best Miscellaneous Instrumentalist" and Doug Payne has been nominated for "Best Drummer". Thanks a lot for making the nominations possible!!!

The voting for the finalists will occur from July 2 through July 26, culminating at PLUMP's performance at the Houston Press Music Awards showcase on Sunday July 26 in downtown Houston. People always say that this rumor is total horseshit, (and they may be right) (in fact I also believe that rumor to be total and complete horseshit), but the fact is, after an evening of terrorizing local gadflys and drunks, Jason enjoys resting on his laurels by playing the saxophone (sans hockey mask of course) (although maybe this time he will in fact have a hockey mask).

So, please, come out and enjoy the show. We will have our buddies GROOVE MOVEMENT from SAN ANTONIO on the bill, so it should really be a cool show!!

This will be our first full show with Jody, and we are so excited because the practices have been really great and weare sounding really cool. PLUMP WELCOMES NEW SINGER: JODY McCORMICK

We in PLUMP are very pleased to announce that we are ready to welcome JODY McCORMICK as our new singer. You may or may not recognize Jody as a stalwart of the Houston music scene, having played in many groups including Jackie Paper, Good Train Sessions/Felix Madison, Deebo's Chicken Coop, etc. Anyway, we had definitely targeted Jody at the beginning of our search for a new singer, and we were really pleased that he was interested in playing a bit with us, and after several jam sessions I must say that we are all really really excited about the prospects for PLUMP. Jody brings some really soulful, funky singing to the table, and we are hoping to eventually incorporate some rhythm guitar, keyboard, percussion, and trumpet to the arsenal. This is gonna be a really great deal.

We have been working with Jody learning the tunes, and we are targeting the DECEMBER 6 show at LAST CONCERT CAFE as Jody's debut show with PLUMP. We are really looking forward to it.

James Yarbrough has left the group

PLUMP is in the process of auditioning for a new singer. In the interim, Doug and Jason are providing the vocals. This was the case for the shows at Dan Electros and Zapatos on August 29-30, and based on the crowd response we are definitely ROCKING!!!

We are looking for a very nice kick off to the Labor Day weekend. FRI AUG 29 will have PLUMP once again at DAN ELECTROS (1031 E. 24th St) in HOUSTON, TX. We have our friends CONGRATULATIONS from Denton, TX who are awesome and also SUPER PANCHO COMBO who we played with a few months back and had a real good time. So this will be a show of epic proportions that should not be missed!!

Well

I think it is fitting to announce that PLUMP's resident guitar wizard Al Bear will be getting married this weekend to JJ (Jana Jones that is). If/when you see Al (or JJ), by all means give them some sort of congratulations. As such, PLUMP will not be playing shows the next few weekends to give them time for the wedding and then the honeymoon. However, Al assures me that after that he will be ready to rock you like a hurricane more than ever before.
